Hi!  I got started in domaining as an accidental entrepreneur.  I bought several domain names for my company, BlackAcre 1031, which is a specialized real estate and tax business involving Section 1031 Tax Deferred Exchanges.  Section 1031 of the Internal Revenue Code allows real estate (and other) investors to legally avoid/defer taxes when they sell one property and buy another, replacement, property.  You can find out more about this at www.blackacre1031.com.  Anyway, I bought some domain names that have the 1031 in them and within a week, I had received an unsolicited offer for $1,000 for one of the names.  I felt great and smart!  And I was a User for the domain name, so I ignored the offer.  They persisted and after a couple of weeks, I replied – $3,000.  They accepted!!

By the time the transaction was completed about 65 days after I purchased the name, I was hooked and I had started buying hundreds of names.  I thought this was a get rich quick idea and I was on my way.  In fact, I got lucky, but by the time I had figured that out, I owned almost a thousand names, many of them kind of random and not very valuable.  But I was hooked.   I started learning abou the domain business and it seemed that if I learned and studied about the industry, I could earn some money and deliver some value.
